His first book Light on Yoga, published in 1966 has become a worldwide classic and is considered a seminal text not only by Iyengar Yoga practitioners but by many other schools of yoga. He went on to write more than 30 books in English alone and many of them have been translated into numerous languages, each one an illuminating contribution to the field of yoga.  Guruji’s years of dedicated practice gave him remarkable insight and depth of understanding of the subject.

 In 2004, Iyengar was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
